Barcelona v Bayern Munich:Koeman eager to move on

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman is hopeful his team can put last season's 8-2 mauling by Bayern Munich behind them when the two sides reconvene in the Champions League.

The Catalan club start the group phase at home to Bayern in Group E, which also features Portuguese outfit Benfica and Ukrainians Dynamo Kyiv.

And following a tumultuous summer which saw Lionel Messi depart on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, Barca have tried their best to overcome off-field issues, winning two of their opening three league games.

But they will have bad memories of this week's Champions League opponents Bayern, who prevailed 8-2 when the teams met in the quarter-finals in the 2019-20 competition.

The Bavarians went on to lift the trophy that campaign but manager Quique Setien was subsequently dismissed by Barcelona, who later appointed Koeman for the 2020-21 campaign.

Koman upbeat ahead of Bayern test

And Koeman is now hoping his team can put last year's match behind them and get a result against reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern.

Speaking to the press, Koeman said: "Bayern are a great team, with very experienced players, and it will be a very difficult game, but we have high hopes.

"We play at home and we will try to get a good result."

Regarding the 8-2 thrashing, Koeman added: "It's been a little over a year since that - the players suffered a lot that night. We have to prepare for the game and be strong as a team. We can hurt Bayern."
